Since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Phase II regulations for storm water management under the Clean Water Act became effective, all construction sites over once acre in size must meet requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). This NPDES regulation affects architects, civil engineers, owners, and contractors daily on all but the smallest of construction sites. This video explores the evolution of the EPA's role in storm water runoff and explains current requirements for construction projects. Specific product applications including silt fences, rock check dams, erosion control blankets, and others are introduced and explained. Key site maintenance issues for erosion and sedimentation control are identified. Finally, common problems found by inspectors are identified with the most common violations of storm water control delineated.
