Engineers and technical personnel need an understanding of measurement system variability and how to conduct measurement system analysis (MSA) studies to quantify variation. Engineers and technical personnel typically develop process or product specifications, determine tolerances or other required measurements and in some cases specify measurement methods to be used. Understanding the variation in a measurement system is essential to be effective in this important arena. Essentials of Measurement Systems Analysis. Essentials of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) is an overview course that gives the participant an understanding of the sources of variation in a measurement system and how to quantify the variation. It is not intended for the participant to learn in depth calculations, but rather the terminology and methodology for understanding measurement system variation with an overview of the calculations.

Essentials of Measurement Systems Analysis The international quality management system standard, IATF 16949:2016 requires that all types of measurement systems used in a facility have MSA’s completed using the AIAG MSA manual. Essentials of Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) will overview that methodology. Effective quality management systems include determining measurement variation as a routine part of the quality system. This course will provide an overview of at least three methods of determining measurement system variation.

The learning objectives are for participants to:
     1. Understand measurement is a process with variability that can be quantified
     2. Know the key terms in Measurement System Analysis
     3. Be able to plan, conduct and analyze measurement system studies
     4. Understand how to troubleshoot and improve a measurement process
