The Rocket Propulsion Professional Certificate, provides an understanding of the basic mechanics of chemical rocket propulsion and sufficient insight to enable the student to perform basic calculations regarding sizing, performance, and propellant requirements. Insights and practical examples are used to help participants understand rocket propulsion principles, scaling, conceptual understanding of design, and challenges and limitations of modern rocket propulsion systems.

Fundamentals of Rocket Propulsion Professional Certificate: 3 courses, 9 hours = 0.9 CEUs
Rocket Propulsion I: Fundamentals of Expanding Gas Rockets (V20M)- 3 hours
Rocket Propulsion II: Foundations of Solid Rocket Motor Analysis (V21G) 3 hours
Rocket Propulsion III: Liquid Propellant Rocket Propulsion (V21H) 3 hours

Target Audience:

Rocket propulsion systems are used for a wide range of military and space launch applications. The Rocket Propulsion Certificate Series is for anyone in engineering, technical, quality, leadership or management positions who may be, or who would like to be, a part of your organization’s engineering or supply chain personnel asset base related to designing, understanding, supplying, or integrating rocket propulsion systems into broader architectures.

Instructor:

Dr. Hartfield’s technical interests include surrogate modeling, theoretical aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, optimization of aerospace systems, propulsion, and optical diagnostics. Dr. Hartfield is active in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, having served as a member of the High-Speed Air-breathing Propulsion Technical Committee, a member of the Applied Aerodynamics Technical Committee and as Technical Chair of the 25TH AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference. Dr. Hartfield has taught short courses to a range of audiences for the DoD, NASA, the University of Kansas, the intelligence community, and Auburn University. He has consulted on airship design, developed and patented an engine, authored or coauthored over 100 conference papers and journal articles to include extensive work in aerodynamics and propulsion, and co-founded Research in Flight, the developer of FlightStream.
