Road Safety 101

This four-hour course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of roadway safety. Attendees will take a look at the historical perspective of roadway safety, identify trends, and proven countermeasures to help reduce injuries and fatalities in our roadways. This course presents a high-level overview of key road safety concepts, safety data sources and analysis, and how to select the right countermeasure for your location. The last portion of this webinar is dedicated to the application of all of the concepts previously covered, featuring a “Reading the Roadway” exercise with real case studies. Participants will be encouraged to unmute their microphones to discuss among peers the case studies included in the ‘Reading the Road’ exercise. Webinar materials and additional exercises will be made available to registrants to download and print ahead of the webinar.

After attending the webinar, participants should be able to: navigate and apply safety principles, analyze crash trends to make practical decisions, evaluate and diagnose safety deficiencies, correlate specific crash types with appropriate safety countermeasures, and select and implement appropriate traffic engineering solutions for specific situations.

This webinar should be of interest to engineers in the private, local, and state level that already work within the roadway safety field or that are being introduced to it.
