Introduction to Ergonomics presents the discipline of ergonomics from both a conceptual and managerial viewpoint. Students are introduced to the definition and general "idea" of ergonomics, the origin and history of the discipline and why the topic is important to engineers. The differences between safety and ergonomics are discussed and the interdisciplinary nature of ergonomics is presented. Typical workplace applications of ergonomics principles are illustrated. Obstacles that impede the implementation of ergonomics are noted and the economic impact and benefits of ergonomics are also discussed.
