In the automotive supply chain, the quality management system is defined by the IATF 16949:2016 standard. The new standard was issued in 2016 and replaces the TS 16949:2009 standard. IATF 16949:2016 incorporates all of the ISO 9001:2015 requirements by reference, plus a couple of hundred additional requirements. The requirements of the IATF 16949 standard are presented in Understanding IATF 16949:2016. This course is for anyone in engineering, technical, quality, leadership or management positions. It can be especially beneficial to those who are responsible for quality, quality management and process improvement in the automotive or transportation industry.

Understanding IATF 16949:2016 is an overview course that will give the participant a general understanding of the requirements and provide insights into applying the underlying principles of quality management to their business. This course presents the additional requirements to the ISO 9001:2015 standard, thus an understanding of ISO 9001 is important to successfully completing this course. The participants will also learn how the registration process works to help them in the journey towards an ISO 9001 registered quality system. For those already registered to TS 16949:2009, this course will provide information essential for the transition to the IATF 16949:2016 re-write of the standard.

The international quality management system standard, ISO 9001:2015, is the basis for an effective quality system for any business. The IATF 16949 standard provides additional requirements for the automotive industry. This standard is recognized worldwide and provides automotive related businesses with a ‘road map’ for a quality system and includes a number of the OEM Customer Specific Requirements. Your quality system should be the way ‘the work gets done’; be easy to maintain; be user friendly; and provide significant internal benefits.

Pre-Requisite: Understanding ISO 9001:2015 (AU Engineering Continuing Education Course V16N) is a pre-requisite for this course. It is possible to get an overview of the IATF standard without the foundation in ISO 9001, but to get the most benefit the participant should complete course V16N or have a working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015.
