The usual responsibilities of an engineer or manager include data collection, analysis, process troubleshooting and process improvement. Using established and logical methodology can improve problem-solving and troubleshooting skills while guiding process improvement strategies and efforts. Identifying and implementing process improvements enable us to become more effective engineers or managers and increases our value to an organization.. Process Improvement requires an organized approach, knowledgeable people, teamwork and the appropriate tools. There are a number of recognized approaches in use today. "Using Distributions for Process Improvement focuses on using simple techniques centered around the normal distribution to identify potential process improvement opportunities and/or assess process performance. This is really an 'eye-opening' approach to using data in business and industry. /p>

Experimentation is the process of learning new information about problems, processes, methods, materials and machines among other things. Statistically Designed Experiments allow us to learn this information in a methodical, planned and cost effective manner.

This is really an ‘eye-opening’ approach to experimentation in business and industry.

“Introduction to Statistically Designed Experiments (SDE)” is a practical course that uses real world examples. It is intended to provide an understanding of using SDE tools for process improvement by looking into several scenarios and using the methodology to lead to solutions. This is not a theoretical statistics course, or series of courses. It is intended to be practical and as such is not a comprehensive statistics course, either. Don’t be ‘scared off’ by the idea of statistically designed experiments. This course is about simple common-sense tools to use for experimentation and process improvement.“Using Data for Decisions” is a practical course that uses real world examples. It is intended to provide an understanding of using the tools of statistical inference for process improvement by looking into several scenarios and using the methodology to lead to solutions. This is not a theoretical statistics course, or series of courses. It is intended to be practical and a such is not a comprehensive statistics course, either. Don’t be ‘scared off’ by the idea of statistical test for determining the effects of a process change, upset or experiment. This course is about understanding and using the correct statistical tools in a variety of situations to draw conclusions with an associated degree of confidence.

The learning objectives are for participants to:
     1. Review/Understand the fundamentals of statistical methods for process improvement
     2. Learn the benefits of statistically designed experiments
     3. Know the several different types of SDE and their differences
     4. Be able to set up a simple 2 factor, 2 level or 3 factor, 2 level experiment
     5. Be able to analyze the factor effects for a factorial SDE
